In 1911 presented the Arth-Rigi Railway ( ARB ) has a gear railcars 2/3 6 BCeh in operation. The railcar is now called BCFhe 2/3 by the Rigi-Bahnen and is the oldest rack-and- pinion railcar in the world that is still in operation.
history
The Rigi-Bahnen (RB) railcar was procured in 1911 by what was then Arth-Rigi-Bahn (ARB) because the existing vehicle fleet was no longer sufficient. Compared to the BCeh 2/4 3–5 purchased in 1907, it has been given a closed car body so that it is pleasant to stay in the car in wet and cold weather. So it could also be used in the pre- and post-season. The SWS and the SLM created the mechanical and structural parts venture. The MFO delivered and installed the electrical equipment. As was already a tradition at the ARB, this railcar was also given a luggage compartment.
Because the ARB was unable to finance the vehicle itself, the railcar was paid for by a consortium and initially only rented by the ARB. The ARB gradually paid off the costs for the railcar.
So that the railcar could be drawn, the transfer table in Arth-Goldau had to be extended by two meters.
The railcar was built so strong that it could transport the many heavy goods (sometimes with a presentation car ). This meant that steam locomotives no longer had to be used.
Redrawings
Over the years, the railcar received new names over and over again. Upon delivery as BCeh 2/3 referred he was 1946 CFeh 2.3 , from 1956 to Berr 2.3 , from 1962 to BDeh 2/3 , 1966 BDhe 03.02 , its current designation as a historic vehicle BCFhe 2/3 .
Conversions
In 1939, railcar 6 was rebuilt, while the output was increased from 260 hp to 530 hp, increasing the speed from 12 km / h to 15 km / h.
In 1986 the board of directors decided to renovate the railcar so that it could then be used for extra and nostalgic trips. Funding was raised through a patronage committee. The renovation cost around 432,000 francs. The car body was completely rebuilt in the ARB workshop, the interior work was done by Ramseier & Jenzer. On the occasion of the general meeting on May 29, 1990, the renovated railcar was presented to the shareholders.
Coloring
The original color was white with large ARB letters on the front below the window and the number 6 above. When it was first converted in 1939, it was given the white / blue paintwork that was later used for a long time. After the renovation from 1988 to 1990, it got its original color again.
