A presentation car is a railroad car that is lined up on cog railways , steep sections or funicular railways on the mountain side of all locomotives . They are mainly used on railways where the locomotives have to run on the valley side for safety reasons. Because of this wagon sequence, presentation wagons are pushed when driving uphill . In the case of continuously ascending routes and short frame locomotives as traction vehicles, the display cars are not coupled to the traction vehicle for safety reasons. Presentation cars are always part of push-pull trains , but unlike the control car , the locomotive cannot be controlled remotely from them.

In order to still occupy the front of the train when driving uphill, the first car is equipped with a special workstation for the brakeman . From there, in contrast to the driver at the end of the train, the driver has a corresponding view of the route and can activate the emergency brake in the event of danger . For communication between the staff at the head of the train and the driver, a bell system with appropriate signs was sometimes used. Trolleys must also be equipped with signal lights and be able to emit acoustic warning signals ( macrofon , bell ) if necessary .
