ARENA2036 building

ARENA2036 is a research platform for mobility in Germany. The name stands for A ctive R esearch E nvironment for the N ext Generation of A utomobiles, the number 2036 refers to the year 2036, the 150th anniversary of the automobile. ARENA2036 was founded on June 3, 2014, after winning the Federal Ministry of Research's innovation competition in 2012. The platform is funded by the “Research Campus - Public-Private Partnership for Innovation” initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and supported by the Karlsruhe Project Management Agency (PTKA). The University of Stuttgart is in charge of the project .

The aim is to promote the sustainable design and manufacture of future vehicles through close cooperation between science and industry. There are currently four research areas:

  • DFA (digital fingerprint)
  • flexCAR (A Technology Platform Concept for the Future Cyberphysical Vehicle)
  • FluPro (fluid vehicle production for the mobility of the future)
  • InnoHub (Agile InnovationsHub in ARENA2036)

The platform's 30 partners include a. BASF , Bosch , Daimler , DLR , DSM , Festo , Fraunhofer Institutes , Hewlett Packard , Siemens , Trumpf and the University of Stuttgart.

The ARENA2036 building on the Stuttgart University campus in Stuttgart-Vaihingen , designed by Henn Architekten , was inaugurated in March 2017. It is 130 m long, 46 m wide and 16 m high. The centerpiece is a column-free hall.
