ARGE Wahlen Institute for election analysis and election day research is a registered Austrian association (association registration number: 768694324). One of the founders is its scientific director Franz Sommer, who is known for numerous publications in the field of election research.

Before the association was founded in 2013, projections were published as ARGE elections (working group). The name ARGE Wahlen comes from this time and is still used as a short name. Projections began in 1983, the first nationwide election was projected by Franz Sommer in 1986. According to the ARGE Wahlen was founded in 1990. The first extrapolation for media partners took place with the National Council election in 2002 . The operational implementation of the election projections is carried out with the Viennese digital agency Earlybird.

While SORA carries out the extrapolation for the state ORF, ARGE Wahlen is known for its extrapolations and voter flow analyzes on election evenings in the private channels ATV , Puls4 , ServusTV and for the news agency APA .

Up until the federal presidential election in 2016, extrapolators were able to create projections based on individual results on the afternoon of election Sunday. With the decision of the Constitutional Court of July 1, 2016, individual results may be included after the general election deadline.
