Lists on the subject

The AS.30 is a short-range air-to-surface missile developed by Aérospatiale for the French Air Force . It is the successor to the AS.20 , which was developed in the mid-1950s.

AS.30

The AS.30 entered service with the Armée de l'air in 1960. It is available in several variants, the best known of which is the AS.30L. It originally used the same target system as the AS.20 . Only a later variant was equipped with an infrared seeker head. The 240 kg warhead was used in all AS.30 versions, it is a derivative of the French 250 kg GP bomb.

The weapon is steered with a small joystick to transmit the control radio commands. The French Air Force also used the sight correction control, which keeps the target in sight and the missile makes the flight path corrections itself. This requires an infrared detector that detects the heat radiation from the flare at the tail of the missile and provides the control electronics with the position of the missile relative to the line of sight. The disadvantage of this method, however, is that no deep attacks can be flown, because the carrier machine must fly towards the target from a great height in orbit flight.

AS.30L

In 1974 Aérospatiale started developing the AS.30 with laser search head (L). The test programs were completed in 1983. A total of fourteen missiles were used for these tests. From 1988 the AS.30L was officially put into service with the French Air Force, and from 1996 also with naval aviation. With the ATLIS-II target nacelle, the AS.30L is a very precise missile, its accuracy is specified with one meter.
