The ASG Vorwärts Marienberg was a German army sports association from Marienberg in the Ore Mountains , whose football department existed until 1990. Vorwärts Marienberg was financially supported by the Army Sports Association Vorwärts , the ASG was subordinate to the 7th motorized rifle regiment of the NVA in Marienberg in the Marienberg barracks.

Football section

Vorwärts Marienberg appeared for the first time in 1963 in the higher-class football of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district league . The ASG mostly benefited from higher-class players who did their army service in Marienberg. Vorwärts Marienberg initially played in higher table regions, with third place behind Motor Zschopau being achieved in the 1964/65 season . In the following years, the Erzgebirge commuted several times between the district league and the fourth-class district class.

By winning the Karl-Marx-Städter District Cup (1-0 victory against Motor Hohenstein-Ernstthal ), the army sports community moved into the first main round of the FDGB Cup in the 1966/67 game year , in which Marienberg was the financially much better off ASG Vorwärts Cottbus lost with 1: 6. 1970 Vorwärts Marienberg rose again together with West Karl-Marx-Stadt in the fourth class and then sank in the regional football of the Ore Mountains.

Similar to other army sports associations, the ASG Vorwärts Marienberg was withdrawn from gaming operations and dissolved in 1990. The BSG Motor Marienberg association took over the starting position in the Karl-Marx-Stadt district class.
