The ASV Schorndorf is a wrestling club that was founded in 1908.
History of the club
The ASV Schorndorf association was founded in 1908 as ASV Spartania in the “Bierhalle” inn. Heinrich Stradinger was the first board member of the association at that time. In the beginning, weightlifting was the main focus of the club's life, but by the end of 1908 the club received its first wrestling mat.
Even before the First World War , the club was able to record its first tournament successes. Performance: Karl Beißwenger in athletic sports festival in Nuremberg in 1912 very well off.
The First World War brought a standstill. Hans Merkle , Max Merkle , Anton Reichert and Karl Setzer died.
After the First World War, thanks to the sponsor Willi Hornschuch , the association went up again. In 1920, 1924 and 1926 the club carried out the Gaume Championship. In 1929, the wrestling relay was promoted to the district league, at that time the second highest league in Württemberg . The forced conformity from 1933 paralyzed the free development of the association. Parts of the sports field and its sports house had to be given to the SA and SS .
After the Second World War , the local clubs were combined in a large club. In 1948, however, the ASV Spartania was re-established. 1958 followed the first runner-up title. In 1966, a contract was established with the Schorndorf-based home appliance manufacturer Bauknecht , and the association has been nicknamed Bauknecht ever since. In 1974 the wrestlers were again runner-up and a year later they celebrated the success against ASV Mainz 1888 , the German championship title.
In 1981, after Bauknecht went bankrupt, the club could no longer finance itself and had to relegate to the amateur league.
The ASVler came back to the 1st Bundesliga via the Oberliga, Regionalliga and the 2nd Bundesliga , where they had not lost any points in 2000 .
However, the descent soon afterwards was unavoidable. In the 2nd Bundesliga, the ASV has since achieved good placements again and in the season he took part in the relegation again. In the 2008/09 season Schorndorf finished 7th under coach Jaroslav Bago.
Since 2004 the ASV Schorndorf also has a second men's team, which is led by Sascha Koppenhagen. She was district league champion in 2007 and 2008. In 2007, however, they did not manage to move up through relegation. From 2009 they will automatically wrestle in the national league due to a new division of the lower leagues.
In the WRV Cup in 2008, the club made it to the final, in 2009 he was eliminated in the second round. In 2010, the club withdrew its team from the 2nd Bundesliga and entered the sixth-class regional league in the new season, which they finished in sixth place.
