Amicale Sportive Dragons is a Congolese football club from Kinshasa . The club is a multiple national champion and was twice in the final of the African Cup of Champions Club in the 1980s under the name AS Bilima .
history
The club was founded in 1938 under the name AS Bilima . After the country gained independence from Belgium in June 1960, the team developed into one of the leading clubs, as evidenced by the first championship in 1965. Subsequently, however, a dominance of the trio AS Vita Club , Imana Kinshasa and Tout Puissant Mazembe developed , which was only broken occasionally. In 1969, the Congolese businessman Édouard Mwe di Malila Apenela joined the team as president and financier. On his arrival he brought in players like Pembele Ngunza, Magie Mafwala and Romain Bamuleke. Thanks to Mwe di Malilas Apenela's financial and moral commitment, the club reached, after the second championship title in 1979, in 1980 the finals for the African Cup of Champions Clubs, in which the Cameroonian opponent Canon Yaoundé prevailed. After another title in 1982, the club won the fourth championship title in 1984 again with a final in the African Cup of Champions Clubs, but this time FAR Rabat was too strong. In the 1990s, the club, now renamed AS Dragons, won the Coupe du Congo several times , but in the championship it was no longer able to build on previous successes. President Édouard Mwe di Malila Apenela later left the board to transfer the leadership to others. However, he remained available to the club as a sponsor and honorary president. Lili Lumande is currently the president of the association.
