The AXA Insurance Ltd (brand: AXA ), headquartered in Winterthur is a Swiss insurance company and subsidiary of the French insurance group AXA . The company emerged at the end of 2006 from the Swiss parent company of the Winterthur Group acquired by AXA .
With a market share of around 20 percent, AXA Insurance is number 1 in the Swiss insurance market. The product range includes personal, property, liability, vehicle, credit and travel insurance as well as pension solutions for individuals and companies.
The company employs around 4,300 people. In the sales network with around 300 independent general agencies and agencies, around 2,900 external employees work for AXA Insurance. With around 1.7 million policyholders, AXA Insurance achieved a premium volume of 10.233 billion Swiss francs in 2009.
history
At the end of 2006, the AXA Group took over Winterthur Insurance, which was founded in 1875. The foreign activities of Winterthur were integrated into the AXA Group. The Swiss parent company of Winterthur was merged with the previous Swiss subsidiary of AXA, incorporated into the AXA Group and today covers the Swiss market under the AXA brand .
In March 2008, the company's legal entity was renamed from Winterthur Swiss Insurance Company to AXA Versicherungen AG.
In Switzerland, the AXA Group has also been active in the banking business with AXA Bank , a branch of the Brussels- based AXA Bank Europe, since 2009. In the course of the first half of 2012, AXA Bank ceased its operations in Switzerland; on January 1, 2012, it transferred its customer base to bank zweiplus .
