A 3 , often also A3 , stands for department 3 in a staff of the air force of the Bundeswehr . The department head post can be co-ordinated as an officer in the general staff service. The letter "A" stands for Air Force (Luftwaffe) and the number "3" denotes " Basic Command Area 3", ie planning, giving orders and conducting ongoing operations .
If there are no independent departments for the basic management areas 5 or 7, the tasks are also carried out by the "A3".
