A quo that is Pope Clement XIII's first encyclical . , in which he called on all bishops for Christian unity on September 13, 1758 . The name of the encyclical is derived from its initial words "Since the day ...".

Immediately after assuming the Petrine office on July 6, 1758, Clemens demanded with this apostolic letter with reference to St. Peter called on the bishops to be united to one another in faith and to distinguish between the "sons of light" and the "sons of the world". Shepherds should use all their might to increase peace among believers and to uproot the seeds of discord.

Duties of the bishops

He exhorted the bishops to exercise their pastoral office conscientiously and with humility and referred, among other things, to the first letter of the apostle Paul to the Corinthians, about the long-suffering and kindness of love. May the shepherd give his life for his sheep, out of love, not for miserable money. The bishop must visit all places of his diocese to see that everything is right. Therefore, the bishop should not leave his diocese for too long and only for an important reason, because whenever the bishop is absent, the danger is present. The Pope closes by presenting the Last Judgment to the bishops , at which everyone must give an account of those entrusted to him.
