The Aachener Schanze is a castle that was 11.3 kilometers north of Rüdesheim am Rhein on one side of the Herrnsbach valley . Today the place is in the urban area of Lorch in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis in Hesse .
The Aachener Schanze was built as a defensive structure during the siege of Rheinberg Castle by the troops of the Mainz ore monastery in 1279 . After the siege was over in 1280, the hill probably quickly lost its importance and fell into disrepair in the period that followed.
