Aarkanal

Course of the Aark Canal

The Aarkanal is part of the Dutch canal system and is located in the province of South Holland . It connects the rivers Amstel and Drecht with the Oude Rijn ( German Old Rhine ) via the Amstel-Drecht Canal . The Aarkanal was created in 1825 and has a length of 11 km. The canal runs through the Geerpolder, then east along Ter Aar to Alphen aan den Rijn , where it joins the Oude Rijn. In a southerly direction, the canal continues through the canalized Gouwe .
