Aavikko is a Finnish synthesizer music group.

history

The group was founded in 1995 in the small town of Siilinjärvi in Eastern Finland by school friends Tomi Leppänen , Tomi Kosonen and Antti Koivumäki . The latter left in 1999 and was replaced by Paul "Graf" Staufenbiel on the synthesizer. The members had previously made music of various styles together in different groups, using the instruments that were currently available to them, such as Yamaha home organs and the well-known Casio synthesizers.

The name Aavikko (Finnish for desert, steppe ) refers to the sand pits in the center of her hometown Siilinjärvi. This (Finnish siilin , German Ober- , English super ; Finnish järvi , German See , English lake ) the group dedicated the piece Superlake Beat in 2001 .

With the theme song to the TV show Kumman Kaa Aavikko led in 2002 for three months the Finnish GSM - ringtone - hit parade on.

style

Aavikko plays catchy and danceable Lounge - Retro - supermarket music . The musicians themselves describe their style as Muysic or Casio Core and have the motto: "We play - you dance!".

It is characterized by a very precise human drummer who is supported by the pre-stored rhythms and sounds of the electronic instruments. The result sounds cheap at first (and should), but shows intelligent planning and composition.
