Aba II.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aba II. (Also Mar Aba II .; * 641 in Kaschkar, † 751 in Seleukia-Ctesiphon ) was Catholicos of the "Church of the East" from 741-751.

Gregorius Bar-Hebraeus provides a short report in his church history about Aba's work . Before Aba II., Allegedly at the age of 100, became a Catholic, he had officiated as Bishop of Kaschkar. Many of his works have not been preserved, such as a book by the strategists , an explanation of the speeches of the fourth-century church father Gregory of Nazianzen , various homilies and a commentary on a collection of logical writings ( Organon ) by the Greek philosopher Aristotle. What has come down to us is a letter that Aba II addressed to members of the Seleukia school. There are also extracts from his commentaries in the 10th century compilation Gannat Bussame , which contains material from older exegesis of the Gospel.
