Abbasi , also Abassi ( ʿabbāsī ) is the name of both an old silver coin and an old gold coin from Persia . It was named after Abbas I of Persia .

The silver coin was first minted in 1620 with a weight of 7.7 grams, then until the middle of the 18th century with an ever decreasing weight. Abbasi were minted in Azerbaijan and Georgia from 1762, and in Tbilisi in Russia between 1804 and 1832 . In Afghanistan, the coin was minted under Habibullah Khan and Amanullah Khan until 1926.

Originally the silver Abbasi was equivalent to 4 Shahi = 10 Bisti = 40 Kazbeki = 200 Dinar. The gold coin was equivalent to 2000 dinars.
