The Abcoudermeer is a lake in the village of Abcoude in the north of the Dutch province of Utrecht, right on the border with North Holland and the Amsterdam district of Zuidoost . The water is part of the main drainage system (Dutch Boezem ) of the water board Amstel , Gooi and Vecht , the water level by means of pumping stations cm on average 40 below the sea Amsterdam Level (NAP) is held.
The lake, which is 17 hectares in size and a maximum of four meters deep, was given its present form by the dikes for land reclamation that have taken place here since the late Middle Ages . Before, the area consisted of a barely populated moorland . In the north the river Angstel flows into the Abcoudermeer. The Holendrecht River leaves the water on the western bank. The lake is crossed by the Dutch waterway 222a (Holendrecht – Angstel).
On the northeastern bank is the Gemaal Broekzijds pumping station , which annually pumps more than two million cubic meters of excess water from the lower Broekzijdse Polder into the Abcoudermeer. In the event of drought and to improve the water quality, water from the lake and other surface waters is also regularly added to the surrounding area. Among other things, there is a connection for feeding water into the Gaasperplas, which is about two meters below .
Several footpaths and bike paths run along the lake. In the north of the Abcoudermeer there is the nature and recreation area De Hoge Dijk .
