Abdülkadir Turhan Sökmen

Abdulkadir Turhan Sökmen (* 1923 in Balıkesir , Balıkesir Province ) is a former Turkish Lieutenant General of the Army (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) .

Life

After attending school, Sökmen completed his military training at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) , which he graduated in 1941. After various posts as an officer, he completed his training as a staff officer at the Army Academy ( Harp Akademisi ) in 1959 and was later, among other things, from 1965 to 1966 as an officer in the troops in Iran and from 1969 to 1971 as an officer in the department for organization and planning in Army high command active.

After his promotion to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) in 1971, Sökmen was first commander of the 4th Tank Brigade in Aşkale and then in 1972 head of the intelligence department in the Army High Command. In 1973 he was promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) and appointed Chief of Staff of the 2nd Army in Konya , before he became commander of the 51st Division in Dumlu in 1975.

In 1977 Sökmen was promoted to lieutenant general and on September 5, 1977 to head of the General Directorate for Cartography (Harita Genel Müdürlüğü) and then on August 20, 1980 to commanding general of the XV. Corps in İzmit . He was retired on September 3, 1981.

His marriage had three children.
