Abdallah ibn Jahsch , also Abd Allah ibn Jahsch ( Arabic عبد الله بن جحش, DMG ʿAbd Allāh b. Ǧaḥš ; * around 580; † 625 ), was an early follower of Muhammad . His mother - an aunt of Muhammad - was Umaima bint ( daughter of ) Abd al-Muttalib . His sister, Zainab , became one of Muhammad's wives in Medina . He had two brothers, Abu Ahmad and Ubaydullah. With the latter he took part in the migration to Abyssinia when some followers of Muhammad fled Mecca to enjoy protection from the pagan Quraish, who were persecuting the Muslims in Mecca, under the rule of the Christian Negus . His brother converted to Christianity and stayed in Abyssinia until his death. Abdullah, on the other hand, returned to Mecca and later migrated to Yathrib (see Hijra ). In January 624 AD he led the first successful caravan raid by the Muslims at Nachla, two valleys between Mecca and Ta'if , and took part in the Battle of Badr in March of the same year . He was killed in 625 AD, between the ages of 40 and 50, at the Battle of Uhud .
