Abdourahamane solos (* 1938 in Tahoua ; † 18th February 2016 in Niamey ; also Abdourahamane Soly , Abdourahmane solos , Abdourhamane solos ) was a Nigerien lawyer , politician and author .

Life

Abdourahamane Soli attended elementary school in his hometown of Tahoua and middle schools in Niamey and Porto-Novo , from which he graduated with a baccalaureate . He completed his military service with the French armed forces in Ouidah . He then studied from 1958 to 1962 at Dakar University , which he left with a master's degree in private law . From 1962 to 1966 he continued his legal studies at the Center national d'études judiciaires in Bordeaux .

Subsequently, Soli began a professional career in the Nigerien civil service. A severe visual impairment did not prevent him from being present in public through numerous lectures and publications - including as a writer. It was 1987, during the Second Republic under President Ali Saibou , Minister of Justice . He held this office until 1989. Subsequently, Soli became General Procurator of the Supreme Court ( Cour suprême ). One of his best-known achievements during this time was his successful performance as a public prosecutor against the prominent French lawyer Jacques Vergès , whom President Mahamane Ousmane had hired to challenge the legality of the special constituencies in the 1995 parliamentary elections before the Supreme Court.

In 1998 Soli retired as General Procurator. He continued to speak out on legal and political issues in public. This included his opposition to the attempt by President Mamadou Tandja to obtain a third term in office in 2009, which is not provided for in the constitution. After Tandja was overthrown, he served as Vice President of the Transitional Constitutional Court in 2010.

Soli died in a room fire in his Niamey apartment in 2016. The first school for the blind and visually impaired Nigerians, founded in 1979, was named after him.
