Abe Schwartz
Abe Schwartz ( Yiddish אייב שווארץ; * 1881 near Bucharest ; † 1963 in the United States was) one of Romania originating American composer , klezmer musician, violinist , pianist and orchestra leader .
Life
Abe Schwartz grew up the son of a Jewish family in Romania and came to the United States as an immigrant in 1899 at the age of 18. Here he quickly became known as a musician and composer in New York City . His music group ( Abe Schwartz's Orchestra ) played klezmer with texts in Yiddish , including the song Di grine kuzine (1922) as a great success . Abe Schwartz is usually given as the author of the melody of this song. Other well-known titles were Orientalische Hora (1919), Shwer un Shweeger Tantz (Dance of the In-Laws, 1921) and Romanian Volach (1922). In the late 1920s it was Naftule Brandwein and Dave Tarras who played his pieces on the clarinet .
