Abelardo Moralejo Lasso

Abelardo Moralejo Lasso (also Laso, born January 28, 1898 in Argujillo, Zamora , † April 10, 1983 in Santiago de Compostela ) was a Spanish Latinist and linguist.

Life

Moralejo Lasso studied at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Salamanca a . a. with Miguel de Unamuno and obtained his licentiate in 1921. For his doctorate he continued his studies at the University of Madrid . At the same time he cooperated with the Centro de Estudios Históricos led by Ramón Menéndez Pidal . Moralejo Lasso temporarily served in the Spanish Army in the Second Moroccan War . In 1926 he submitted his dissertation on Latin phonetics, supervised by Julio Cejador y Frauca (1864–1927), and obtained his doctorate.

In 1927 Moralejo Lasso received a chair in Latin studies at the University of Santiago de Compostela , which he held throughout his career. In the following years he took on further tasks and was u. a. Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy. In 1968 he retired, but continued to publish.

Moralejo Lasso died on April 10, 1983 in Santiago de Compostela.

Teaching and creating

The main field of work of Moralejo Lasso was the language, and here the classical and Romance languages. He also dealt extensively with toponomics . He also worked as a translator - for example, he made Walter Porzig's excellent work "The Miracle of Language" accessible to the Spanish-speaking world.
