Aberdeen is a South African city in the parish of Dr Beyers Naudé , Sarah Baartman District , Eastern Cape Province . In 2011 the city had 5,133 inhabitants.
The city is on the edge of the Camdeboo Mountains . Aberdeen is one of the places founded by the Nederlandse Hervormde Kerk so that the farmers in the area did not have to travel long distances to receive communion . The village was founded on the Brakkefontein farm in 1855 and named after Aberdeen in Scotland .
