Abraham Cruzvillegas
Abraham Cruzvillegas (* 1968 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican concept and installation artist .
life and work
Abraham Cruzvillegas studied education at the National Autonomous University of Mexico from 1986 to 1990 and at the same time followed the workshop Taller de los Viernes with Gabriel Orozco .
Cruz Villegas is in the Colonia Ajusco in the vicinity grown-Mexico City and lives there still always. The people there (illegally) build their homes themselves with the help of their family members, neighbors, relatives and friends. Slowly, as is possible with limited resources, the houses “grow” in a long process using a wide variety of materials, which the Makes changes in the lives of its residents visible.
Cruzvillegas has been working on the “Autoconstrucción / In-House Construction” project since 2007. He works with found objects for his sculptures and installations . He takes things and materials that have been thrown away and gives them a new use.
