Abraham Robarts (politician)

Abraham Robarts (born September 27, 1745 , † November 26, 1816 ) was a British politician and banker.

Life

Abraham Robarts was the son of Abraham Robarts and his wife Elizabeth (nee Wildey). In 1781 Robarts was a director in the Royal Exchange Assurance . From 1786 to 1815 he was a director in the East India Company . Furthermore, Robarts was a successful banker. Among other things , he was one of the founding partners of the London bank Robarts, Curtis, Were, Hornyold and Berwick in 1792 .

In 1784 he ran unsuccessfully in the constituency of Wootton Bassett for a seat in the House of Commons . From 1796 until his death, he finally represented the Worcester constituency in the House of Commons. In December 1816, George William Coventry, Viscount Deerhurst took his vacant seat in the House of Commons.

On June 16, 1774 he married Sabine Tierney, sister of the politician George Tierney . The marriage resulted in four sons and five daughters. Three of his sons, Abraham , George and William Tierney Robarts , later also became MPs in the House of Commons. His daughter Sabine was married to the politician Charles Thellusson .
