George James Robarts

George James Robarts (* around 1782 , † October 16, 1829 ) was a British politician and officer.

Life

George James Robarts was the second eldest son of Abraham Robarts and his wife Sabine (nee Tierney). He grew up with three brothers, including Abraham Wildey Robarts and William Tierney Robarts , and five sisters. The politician George Tierney was his uncle.

Robarts, served as a dragoon since 1803 . He took part in the Napoleonic Wars on the Iberian Peninsula and fought, among other things, in the Battle of Vitoria . He returned to the United Kingdom with the rank of lieutenant-colonel and retired from active service in 1814 with the rank of major.

In 1818 he ran unsuccessfully in the Wallingford constituency for a seat in the House of Commons . In the general election in 1820, he came again in this constituency, this successful. He was a member of the House of Commons until December 1826, when he had to resign from office shortly after the general election in 1826 due to illness.

George James Robarts died unmarried. He had three illegitimate children, two sons and a daughter.
