Abram de Swaan

De Swaan gained attention for his work on the sociogenesis of welfare states . Based on Elias' study on the process of civilization , de Swaan does not presuppose the existence of state (collective) intervention possibilities, but rather describes the collectivization of social risks as a process lasting centuries. The thesis emerged from his study that the welfare state enables civilization towards social awareness .
