Abramowski (noble family)

Jastrzębiec coat of arms

Abramowski is a noble family and belongs to the Polish coat of arms community of Jastrzębiec . It begins with the progenitor Sigmund Abramowski and has its origin in Masuria in today's Poland .

origin

It goes back to a member of the extensive Mazovian noble family of the Pomian. The Pomian handheld festival, issued in 1480, names a Paul (von) Pomian as the recipient. As a result, the name changes to "z Pomyana" (dt = from Pomyana). The estate itself is mentioned as early as 1449 under the name Pomian.

The origin of the name (short form)

The family name is a designation of origin.

The new good name Jebrammen (or Jebramy, later also Jebramow) seems to go back to Jebraham (= German Abraham von Pomyana ), which means in German Abrahamsdorf. This name appears for the first time in a purchase letter (issued in German) from 1554 about the 70 Hufen Gut Stablauken by Michael von Abramsdorf and Albrecht von Ziperken "both free from the Johansburg area". Since there was no other Abramsdorf in the Johannisburg office, it can only be a question of Jebrammen (the settlement "Abrahamsruh" near Goldap was only established in 1838). A purchase letter from 1558 issued by Caspar von Lehndorff, mentions "Sygmundt von Gebrannofa from the Johanspurgian". However, there is no place called Gebrannofa. This Sygmundt von Gebrannofa can only be Sigmund von Pomian, who is mentioned in Pomian in 1535 and 1540. In a note about the payment of the purchase price installment in 1559, his name was already Sigmundt Gebranoufski.

However, after the village name was changed to Jebrammen, Sigmund left the estate. His sons (Stenzeln, Bastyan, Hansen and Witegk = Albrecht) pay the purchase price installments in the following years and receive receipts (Sigmund also appears again) in the name of Gebramofski. On 3 still preserved drafts for a prescription of 12 hooves in tendons they name him: "Gebramofski", "Abramnofsky" and "Abramofsky". In the final prescription issued in 1577, he is named Sigmund Abramowsky. After that he is only mentioned as "Abramowski".

Thus, from the designation of origin "von Jebrammen", Polish "z Jebramowa", then Gebramofski, finally the family name Abramowski emerged in the second half of the 16th century.

It should be noted, however, that "Abramowsky" with "y" or "Abramowski", which do not have their origin in the Masurian / East Prussian area (e.g. by adopting the name), are not dealt with here and are therefore not part of the aristocratic family Abramowski belong.

coat of arms

The heraldic animal of the Jastrzębiec heraldic community is the hawk . In the shield with a blue background, the coat of arms shows a golden horseshoe with a golden knight's or cavalier's cross in the middle. The jewel sheet with a foliage crown winning handle helmet and a chain with a golden Charm (a so-called. Tournament trademark). The hawk stands in the crown with outstretched wings and also holds a gold horseshoe and cross in its claw. The helmet cover is yellow and blue.

However, other coats of arms and changes of coat of arms are known. Depending on the line, some Abramowski have completely different coats of arms: with their own motif (West-Pr. Line: Steenkendorf, Röschken, Schalkendorf), others use a mix with the motif shown above as a heart shield (East-Pr. Line: Stradaunen, Prostken) , or carry the coats of arms of other communities (coat of arms of the Sas - Saxon / Silesian line). When taking over goods in other regions, one has definitely joined other heraldic communities. Well-known are: Abdank , Nieczuja and Waga (1).

Jebrams

Jebrammen is located in the municipality of Prostken ( Polish Prostki ) and was called "Bachort" from 1938, and Jebramki in Polish since 1945 .
