Abscess was an electronic formation founded in 1993 by Jan Bicker (vocals) and Sunny Schramm (music) in Kiel . The band initially mixed electro with breakbeat bonds. With the second work, the focus shifted to ambient , film score and trip-hop elements.

background

Musically influenced by artists such as Mentallo & The Fixer , Skinny Puppy , Front Line Assembly , Lassigue Bendthaus and Clock DVA , Jan Bicker and Sunny Schramm (who previously worked in the band Nigra Nebula , among others ) formed the project under the name God's Gift . Since a group with the same name already existed, they changed God's Gift to Abscess .

After the release of the demo "Destruction" in 1994, Abscess signed a contract with the Hamburg record company Glasnost Records . There the two albums "In Your Mind" (1995) and "Journey" (1996) were released.

Abscess soon attracted attention with titles such as “Delusion”, “Slinking Shadows”, “Forged Voices” and “Vicious Cover”, a remix of the club hit song “Raise Up” was featured on the sampler “Neurostyle Vol. 1 " released. Sevren Ni-Arb, front man of the band X Marks The Pedwalk , worked as a sound engineer on the recordings for "In Your Mind" .

In order to be able to build on the success of both works, Abscess then switched to the Bad Homburg label Zoth Ommog , on which the third and for the time being last work “Punishment & Crippled Reality” appeared. This album was released in 1999 to the Canadian label Gashed! licensed.

After 6 tracks of the fourth album "ClockworX" had already been completed, Jan Bicker suddenly stopped his musical activities. Abscess separated in 2000, the new album was not released. Sunny Schramm founded the solo project Type and temporarily acted as a member of the Concrete Nature formation (formerly Nigra Nebula).

From 2005 Schramm supported the north German band Pesticide with the necessary synths and samples, but left them 2 years later.

Others

The basic melody used by Aggro Berlin for the promo video Aggro Part 2 is a sample of the Abscess song “Delusion”.
