The large crucian carp , also just called crucian carp , is a 1.7 hectare, shallow, lime-rich and eutrophic lake in the silting area of the southern Schwerin Inner Lake in the city of Schwerin . The big crucian was probably part of the Schwerin lake in the past. The bank is almost completely wooded all around. A three to five meter wide swinging moor strip surrounds the lake, only the east bank is accessible. The large crucian carp is in the advanced stage of silting up and is part of the “Schweriner Innensee and Ziegelaußensee” nature reserve. Together with the bank areas, it is one of the legally protected biotopes .

The crucian carp was part of the natural garden for the 2009 Federal Horticultural Show . There were disagreements between the BUND and the BUGA planners about the extent of the intervention in the area around the small lake, for example by deepening and creating trenches to drain the exhibition space . The BUND feared above all dangers from an increased nutrient input into the Schweriner See and saw the measures as preparations for a building area to be built according to the BUGA, which the planners denied. On February 29, 2008, BUND filed a lawsuit against the planned measures.

Flora and fauna

Small crucian

The small crucian carp , which was once also an open body of water, is now completely silted up and overgrown by broken forest, benefiting from the lack of bank erosion. In a Schwerin city map from 1933, the small crucian carp is still drawn northwest of the large crucian carp.
