description
The lake is 2.1 kilometers long and about 1.1 kilometers wide in the north, and narrower in the south. The average water depth is over ten meters, which means that stable temperature stratification can develop. The catchment area has a size of 113 km². The lake is located in the “Schweriner Innensee and Ziegelaußensee” nature reserve, has an almost closed reed belt on the banks of the water, and there are no reeds at the inflow and outflow of the Aubach . The lake is designated as a drinking water protection zone. The Medeweger See belongs to the landscape protection area Schweriner Innensee, Ziegelaußensee and Medeweger See . It is forbidden to enter the Medeweg lake with boats and other watercraft, with the exception of canoeists in the passage. The Gosewinkel waterworks, which was closed in 1999, is located on the west bank.
From 1902 the lake was used for rowing regattas. International championships were held. Spectators were driven to the regatta with special trains, the pedestrians among the up to 9000 guests reached the regatta over the Hopfenbruchweg. There was a railway underpass to the signal and telecommunications plant of the railway, this underpass was dismantled. In 1904 a regatta boathouse was built. The rudiments of the systems were still to be seen until 1965 near the old shunting yard on the railway line. From 1952 to 1999 the lake in a valley served as a drinking water lake.
