There are navigable connections to the Ziegelsee via the Werder Canal and to Schwerin Inner Lake via the Stangengraben. The Heidensee is one of the federal waterways .
location
The Heidensee borders the northern Schwerin district of Werdervorstadt and lies west of the Schwerin Inner Lake not far from the federal highway 104 . On the banks there are boathouses, a water sports facility, allotment gardens and reed, alder and broken willow areas.

The polytrophic shallow water lake is heavily muddy and has high concentrations of nutrients and pollutants in the sediment. The viewing depth is less than half a meter. This is why the water is not suitable for swimming, but it is used extensively for water sports.

On animals are amphibians such as frog , moor frog , common toad , grass snakes , birds such as coots , grebes , mallard , reed warbler , common tern , gray heron , mute swan , Pochard , cormorant , black-headed gull , House Martin and Pochard found. Traces of an otter have also been detected.
