The Lankower See in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is in the urban area of Schwerin . It is a channel lake in a terminal moraine area with very steep slopes and was created during the last Ice Age ( Worm Ice Age ) from a former meltwater channel that was permanently filled with water after the ice receded.
description
The lake is located in the south of the Lankow district and west of Schwerin Weststadt. It has a length of 1.56 kilometers and a width of 900 meters in the north and around 100 meters in the south, with an average depth of 5.2 meters and a volume of 2.8 million cubic meters. A Slavic rampart from 1160, in a rectangular shape 55 × 45 meters, lies on a peninsula in the episcopal garden in front of the north bank. From there, under water, an elevation, popularly called the "ford", extends over to the old Landwehr ditch on the Neumühler bank. This long, stony shoal is not shown on any official map. In the Middle Ages there was a robber baron's castle on the Klotzwerder peninsula (says a legend). Today the lake is a recognized local recreation area with a boat rental and an outdoor swimming pool on the south side. There are 13 allotment gardens on the east side. The west side, the Lankow Mountains , used to be used extensively as a sheep pasture and motocross track , which had a negative effect on the water quality. Due to the nearby new development areas in Neumühle and Lankow, the lake is now increasingly used for recreational purposes. The lake is a popular fishing spot and motor boats are not allowed to be used. The supervising fishing club is Natur- und Angelfreunde Lankower See e. V. Every year, the "Five Lakes Run" in Schwerin also runs along the Lankower See. The island of Rethorst lies in the lake. The lake is strongly eutrophic (as of 1998).
fauna
The Lankower See has a good trim at Aalen , perch , sinkers , pike , carp , roach and rudd on. White bream , ruffe , burbot , tench and pike are rare. The fish stock is improved almost annually by the release of fish carried out by the supervising association, qualitatively and quantitatively.
In addition, ten dragonflies, 44 breeding birds as well as various mussel and snail species have been detected in the area of the lake.
