Location of Neumühle in Schwerin

Neumühle is a district in the west of the Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania state capital Schwerin between the Neumühler See , the Lankower See and the Ostorfer See .

history

The first traces of settlement date from around 4000 BC. It is assumed that the Wendish village Thurow, which has not appeared in records since 1407 , was located on a plateau near the Ostorfer See . The current name of the district goes back to the watermill Neue Mühle , which was already in the area before 1362, since it was first mentioned in documents in 1357 and 1362 as "Nyen Molen". In 1757 there was a fulling mill here . The city of Schwerin bought the New Mill from the village of Wittenförden in 1888 . From 1933, private homes were built in Neumühle, but initially without electricity and sewerage. In the 1970s and finally in 1996, building areas were made available again.

The name of the street to the stairs mountain originated from steps stepped on a slope by grazing cattle. This slope is called Finkenkamp , which goes back to a former bird trapping facility for the ducal kitchen. The existence of allotment gardens has been documented since 1559. To the chagrin of nature, motocross races took place in Neumühle in GDR times.

Waterworks

Water tower

Water tower

Main article: Schwerin-Neumühle water tower

Schwerin's first waterworks was built in Neumühle from 1888–90. This pumped water from the Neumühler See into earth tanks and with steam-operated pumps into the 350 m³ and 22.5 meter high water tower , which was built on Schwerin's highest elevation, the vineyard , at 86.1 meters . As a result, a central drinking water network was created and the number of public wells decreased. Although the population protested against this expensive water supply, the city fathers closed wells from 1892 due to the occurrence of cholera in Hamburg. In 1898 the last public well was filled in. The increased demand for water soon led to strong water level fluctuations in the Neumühler See, which necessitated the construction of further waterworks in Schwerin. In the 1970s, the old steam technology of the waterworks was scrapped and the chimney was torn down. Today the water tower is still in function of the local water supplier as a pressure compensation tank in the water network.

An association has taken on the preservation of the building structure and makes the tower regularly accessible to the public and provides information about the history of Schwerin's water supply.

The Mühlenscharrn waterworks of the water supply and waste water disposal company Schwerin (WAG) is located on Neumühler Straße.
The new construction of a company building with clean water tanks for the Schwerin water supply according to plans by Roland Schulz received a commendation at the state building price MV 2000.

Transport links

The four-lane bypass ( B 106 ) has been running through the west of the district since 1994 . Neumühle is integrated into the city's local transport network via bus lines 12 to 14 . The next train station is in the neighboring district of Görries .

Sports

Neumühle is home to the Neumühler SV football club , which was promoted to the national league in the 2009/10 season.
