Location of Wüstmark in Schwerin

Wüstmark is a district of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state capital Schwerin with 610 inhabitants (as of Sep. 2017) and an area of 563 hectares. In addition to the original town center with peripheral new developments, Wüstmark is mainly characterized by its industrial and commercial areas.

geography

The district is located in the southwest of the urban area. It borders in the north on the districts of Görries and Krebsförden , in the east on the district Göhrener Tannen , in the south on the municipality of Holthusen and in the east on the municipality of Pampow in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim .

The original center of Wüstmark with the village pond and the Wiesenhof home area are located in the north of the district. To the south of this are the three industrial areas Wüstmark (formerly Schwerin-Süd ), Am Fährweg and Babenkoppel . In the south is the Neu Pampow residential area belonging to the district. In the northeast is the 16 hectare nature reserve Kiesgrube Wüstmark . The area used for gravel extraction from 1960 to 1980 with a small gravel lake and barren soil was placed under protection on October 1, 1990.

history

Wüstmark was mentioned for the first time in 1356 in a pawn deed as a desert brand , the name stands for "desert or empty land / area". From 1530 to 1628 the village was alternately owned by the Lords of Raven and von Halberstadt and was then, as before, a Domanialdorf.

On January 1, 1970, the previously independent municipality was incorporated into the then district capital Schwerin. Between 1973 and 1976, an oil heating plant with a 180-meter-high chimney was built, which is the second tallest structure in Schwerin after a transmitter mast at the Schwerin television tower . The purpose of the heating plant was to supply 8,000 households in the Grosser Dreesch residential area and 16 companies in the Schwerin-Süd industrial area with district heating . The growth of the industrial area and the increasing pollution of the Schwerin lakes made it necessary to build a new sewage treatment plant in the northeast of Wüstemark, which was completed in 1974 and still exists today.

In 2002 the new Wiesenhof building area was built . As a result, the population rose from 471 in 2001 to 665 in 2007. Also in 2002, the village pond, which had previously dried out for decades, was rehabilitated.

Attractions

In the town center near the village pond there is a memorial stone for those who fell in the First World War .

Economy and Infrastructure

Both industry and trade are based in the commercial areas. The Chamber of Crafts and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce each maintain training centers here. In the Schwerin-Süd thermal power station and in the biogas plant that went into operation in 2007, the Schwerin municipal utilities generate electricity and district heating to supply the city.

Transport links

The federal highway 321 , leading to Hagenow, runs through Wüstmark and has been expanded here to four lanes since October 2005 as a bypass south of Pampow. The Ludwigslust – Wismar railway line with its Schwerin Süd stop and the Holthusen station, which is located directly at the southwestern tip of Wüstmark, is located on the western border of the district . The Schwerin – Parchim railway branches off from this line and forms the northern border of the district almost continuously and provides transport links with the Wüstmark stop.

The local transport offer is rounded off by tram lines 3 and 4, which connect Wüstmark with the city center and the Großer Dreesch . The final stop with a turning loop is at the Neu Pampow residential area.
