Location of Warnitz in Schwerin

Warnitz is a district in the northwest of the Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania state capital Schwerin .

In the south the area borders on the districts Friedrichsthal and Lankow , in the east on the district Medewege and in the north on the communities Brüsewitz , Pingelshagen and Klein Trebbow , which belong to the district of Northwest Mecklenburg.

history

The first documentary mention as "Wernitze" comes from the year 1262, when the squire Erich von Lüneburg sold part of the village to the canons of Schwerin . Although the place name suggests a Slavic origin, it is unclear whether the typical street village did not emerge until the early German colonization after 1160. The place name changed frequently in the following years, for example in documents from 1280 of "Wernesse", 1299 of "Villa Wernitze" and 1311 of "Wernizce". In 1501 Warnitz, in which there were 13 farms at that time, passed into ducal ownership. In the Thirty Years War the place was completely devastated. In 1669 there were again four inhabited farm sites with 37 inhabitants and a school. The farmers worked for the Herren Steinfeld estate (today a district of Brüsewitz) until 1710, and for the Klein Medewege estate until 1820. To a redivision of the Bauerhufen it came in the middle of the 19th century, it emerged Büdnereien and cottagers land . The files contain evidence of the existence of a school building from 1778. In 1820 a forestry office was set up, in 1860 and 1910 a forge each. The communities Warnitz and Pingelshagen merged to form a community association in 1874. In 1897 the village received a rail connection to the Schwerin-Rehna line.
A war memorial was erected for the victims of the First World War , which has been preserved to this day. Electricity entered the village in 1922. Warnitz has been a district of Schwerin since it was incorporated on October 1, 1936. In 1939, during the Second World War, there were plans to build an armaments factory for Dynamit AG , but these were not implemented.
After the war in 1945/46, as part of the land reform, all goods with an area of over 100 hectares were expropriated and two thirds were distributed to agricultural workers, refugees and displaced persons. In 1953 the first farmers joined forces to form LPG Warnitz. In 1960, 19 residents formed the first crew of the Warnitz volunteer fire department . Until the fall of the Berlin Wall , the district was more of an agricultural area, but other state- owned , cooperative and private businesses also settled there . In 1979, school operations in the school building, which had been in existence since 1804, were stopped, and from then on the students were housed in Lankow schools.
After the political upheaval in the GDR, Warnitz received the Margaretenhof, a new industrial area in which mainly retailers, car dealerships and the employment office (today: ARGE Schwerin) with a job information center have settled. By designating three new building areas, the district was able to attract new residents.

Transport links

Warnitz is integrated into the Schwerin local transport network via bus line 18 . Warnitz has a train station on the single- track Schwerin – Rehna line , which ODEG trains run every hour during the day . Since the completion of the construction section of the Schwerin bypass between Friedrichsthal and Kirch Stück in September 2007, federal highways 106 and 104 run together through the district in four lanes ; there is a junction at Margaretenhof. With the state road L03 running through the district, there is also an important and heavily traveled connection between Schwerin and Grevesmühlen .
