Location of Sack Firs in Schwerin

Sack Firs is a purely industrial and commercial district of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state capital Schwerin with an area of around 90 hectares.

The district is located on the southwestern bank of the Neumühler See . In the west, the Sacktannen industrial area borders on the municipality of Wittenförden , which belongs to the Ludwigslust-Parchim district and whose area must be crossed in order to get to the other districts of Schwerin by motor vehicle. The commercial buildings are separated from the lake by a strip of deciduous trees. In the north of the district is the 59.5  m above sea level. NHN high Sackberg . Towards the Neumühler See, the terrain drops to 44 meters above sea level. The road to Sacktannen branches off from Kreisstraße 66. Via this and the state road 43 you reach the driveway to the four-lane Schwerin bypass road ( B 106 ). The district is integrated into the urban local transport network via bus connections . For freight traffic, a track branches off the Schwerin – Holthusen railway line at Görries .

From the twelve remaining assembly and storage halls of the Wehrmacht , the industrial area developed on 74 hectares in the years 1959 to 1961. The main part was taken by Kabelwerk Nord , which had belonged to the Kabelwerk Oberspree combine in Berlin since 1969 and has become the second largest producer of cables developed in the GDR . With the plastic processing plant, a chemical company started production in 1960, which among other things manufactured household and kitchen products. Since drinking water was taken from the Neumühler See and there was sack fir in its catchment area, the industrial site was not expanded any further. After the change of ownership ( Siemens , Pirelli ), the number of employees at the cable factory decreased from 2,400 to 370 from the fall of the Wall until 2002. Today, the cable factory belongs to Prysmian .
