The Werdervorstadt is a district of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state capital Schwerin .

The district is centrally located east of the Ziegelinnensee and south of the Ziegelaußensee. In the east and south, the Inner Lake of Schwerin borders the Werdervorstadt. In addition, the Heidensee is enclosed by the district. The Weststadt lies between the districts of Schelfwerder , Altstadt , Schelfstadt and Lewenberg ( starting in the north in a clockwise direction ).

Surname

Similar to the neighboring district of Schelfwerder, the Werder part of the name indicates a raised area of ​​land that is surrounded by a body of water or damp stretches of land.

In 1832 what was then Neustadt (today Schelfstadt) was naturalized with Schwerin. The Werdervorstadt belonged as a field mark. Until the middle of the 20th century, the district was only sparsely developed. From the middle of the 20th century into the 21st century, the appearance of Werdervorstadt changed and it was opened up by building areas.

The Werder barracks , Walter-Rathenow-Straße 2a, was built until 1904 for the military of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin . The infantry barracks are now the seat of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional command of the Bundeswehr .

The federal highway 104 , which in Werdervorstadt is known as Werderstrasse and Knaudtstrasse , runs through the district . The B104 leads north to the Schelfwerder district and beyond to the A14 and to Güstrow . In a westerly direction, the B104 continues on Knaudtstrasse to the center of Schwerin and the Obotritenring .

In addition, the district has many boathouses on the banks of the various lakes. There are 39 streets and 642 houses with 2,748 apartments in Werdervorstadt.
