Network plan

The Schwerin tram is the most important public transport system in Schwerin . The Schwerin tram network today covers a route length of 21 kilometers, on which four lines operate. The forerunner of today's tram was a horse-drawn tram, which opened in 1881 and closed again in 1885. The tram is operated by Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH .

history

Network expansion in the new development area Großer Dreesch III , Am Fernsehturm stop, April 1984

In 1881 the first Schwerin horse-drawn tram started operating on two routes. Just four years later, it was discontinued because it was unprofitable. In 1906 the first bus ran on a regular service. Even this was not profitable and operations were stopped after a few months. On December 1, 1908, the electric tram service was officially opened. A railcar from the Wismar wagon factory built in 1926 with the number 26 was restored in 2001/2003 and runs as a traditional car on special occasions. City bus operations began on December 21, 1935.

In April 1945 the old tram depot in Wallstrasse was hit by an air raid. With the exception of four in use, all motor coaches and sidecars of the tram were damaged or destroyed. On May 1, 1946, however, local transport was able to resume operations.

A conductor drove with all trams to sell tickets until the conductorless operation was introduced in 1968. In the 1960s, turning loops were set up at all terminals (except Werderstrasse).

From the 1960s on, Schwerin grew rapidly. This fact was taken into account with the new construction of tram routes to the newly created districts to Lankow in the northwest (opened in 1969), to Großer Dreesch in the southeast (1974, extended in 1984), and to Neu Pampow in the southwest (1979). In September 1969 the winding route through the Schelfstadt to Werderstrasse was discontinued, in April 1977 the forest railway route to Zippendorf .

In the early 1970s, a new era dawned in tram operation. The old trains of the Gotha and REKO types were replaced by so-called Tatra cars from 1973 . The last pre-war car was parked in 1972, the last run by a Gotha car took place in December 1988. These Tatra wagons were to shape the streets of Schwerin for over 30 years.

In 1976 the foundation stone was laid for a new large depot in Haselholz. Large workshops, administration buildings and a transformer station were built here .

In 1996 the depot in Wallstrasse closed for good. The rails of the access route were removed years later in the course of construction work, there are still remains of track in Vossstrasse.

After 41 Tatra trains from instinct and Beitriebwagen composed, and 20 sidecar had been modernized in the years 1991 to 1995 on the type T3DC she articulated tramcars low floor were in the years 2001 to 2003 30 of Bombardier replaced Type SN 2001. The last A Tatra train's line trip took place on February 13, 2004 with wagons 144–244. Most of the cars were sold.

New routes through city expansion

Current

Track plan 2012

Operating intervals during the day, partly depending on the time of day or day of the week:

1 Clinics - Hegelstrasse every 15/20/30 minutes
2 Lankow settlement - Hegelstrasse every 15/20/30/70 minutes
3 Hegelstrasse - New Pampow every 30 minutes (rush hour traffic only)
4th Clinics - Neu Pampow every 30/40/60/80 minutes

Possible network expansions

Occasionally, the integration of the railway lines running relatively close to the city to Rehna and Parchim based on the Karlsruhe model is discussed.

According to the land use plan of the city of Schwerin, the following route extensions would be possible: Hegelstrasse – Consrade, Rahlstedter Strasse – Lankower Dreieck, Kliniken – Groß Medewege, Krebsförden – Görries – Platz der Jugend. The 1.5 kilometer long connection from the forest cemetery and the Krebsförden to the Seven Lakes Park makes sense, but its construction is not being seriously pursued.

In the summer of 2007, the new Bertha-Klingberg-Platz reversing loop was completed for rail replacement traffic at possible construction sites and to connect the 2009 Federal Horticultural Show in Schwerin.

The regular service is carried out with 30 three-part low-floor articulated multiple units. These type SN2001 cars from the Flexity Classic series, built by Bombardier between 2001 and 2003, have the numbers 801 to 830 and are colored white, light yellow and blue. However, some cars are partially or fully covered with advertising. Depending on the number of passengers, double traction is sometimes used. These operations concern Line 2 from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

These cars replaced the Tatra T3 cars that had been in service since 1973 . Most of these railcars were modernized around 1992/93 and were handed over to tram companies in Vladikavkaz , Voronezh , Daugavpils , Tula , Almaty and Dnipropetrovsk (now Dnipro) from 2002 to 2005 . Today they are only in use in Daugavpils and Dnipropetrovsk (now Dnipro) . The associated sidecars, however, were scrapped.

In addition to the 417 Tatra railcar, there is also a Wismar railcar (built in 1926) with the number 26 in the historical inventory of the NVS.
