The transport Schwerin GmbH (in short the NVS ) is a in Schwerin -based municipal public transport company , the four tram -, 15 bus routes and a ferry operates.

The NVS is a 99 percent subsidiary of Stadtwerke Schwerin GmbH (owner of the Stadtwerke: 100% Stadt Schwerin).

history

Traditional Wismar car, built in 1926 (front)

In 1881 the first Schwerin horse-drawn tram started operating on two routes. Just four years later, it was discontinued because it was unprofitable. In 1906 the first bus was running in regular service, at that time the bus division was run by a motor cooperative. Even this was not profitable and operations were stopped after a few months. On December 1, 1908, the electric tram service was officially opened. On December 21, 1935, the city's regular bus service was opened in addition to the tram.

In April 1945 the old tram depot in Wallstrasse was hit by an air raid. With the exception of four in use, all motor coaches and sidecars of the tram were damaged or destroyed. On May 1, 1946, however, local transport was able to resume operations.

Like all other companies in the GDR , Schwerin local transport was also incorporated into the GDR planned economy . In 1948 he was accepted into the municipal utility company (KWU).

In 1976 the foundation stone was laid for a new large depot in Haselholz. Large workshops, administration buildings and a transformer station were built here .

In 1982 VE (K) Nahverkehr was assigned to the Kombinatsverbund as an independent operation. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , local transport was transformed into a GmbH in 1990 . Shortly afterwards, the renewal of the bus fleet began. In the years 1991 and 1993 were 48  city buses of the types Mercedes-Benz O 405 and O 405 G and low-floor buses from MAN acquired, the to 1995 Ikarus buses replaced.

The Schwerin local transport system also implements the concept of outsourcing in the main: in 1999, part of the operation, including bus line 16, was spun off to Schweriner Verkehrs-Service GmbH , which however was dissolved again in 2003. In 2004, the Mecklenburg traffic service GmbH Schwerin (MVG) was founded , which deals with service issues such as B. concentrated the sale of tickets and the transport service. On January 1, 2019, MVG was merged back into NVS.

In 2000, the MecklenburgBahn (MEBA) was founded as a wholly owned subsidiary of the NVS, which from 2001 operated passenger services on the 80-kilometer route Rehna - Gadebusch - Schwerin Hbf - Crivitz - Parchim until December 2013. In 2005, MEBA merged with OME to form Ostseeland Verkehr GmbH . Veolia Verkehr GmbH held 70% and NVS 30% of the shares in this company . The company was closed in 2014.
