Abu-Bakr Khairat
Abu-Bakr Mahmoud Khairat ( Arabic أبو بكر خيرت; * April 10, 1910 in Cairo ; † October 25, 1963 ibid) was an Egyptian architect and composer .
Khairat grew up in a family interested in culture, which also included the singer and composer Sayed Darwish. He received violin and piano lessons at an early age, but then studied architecture in Cairo and Paris, where he also supplemented his musical training. In 1935 he returned to Cairo and worked as an architect. He designed u. a. the Akademie der Künste, a building complex that was completed in 1959 and comprised several institutes. This also included the conservatory founded by Khairat, where he worked as dean until 1963.
Khairat belonged to the first generation of Egyptian composers who orientated themselves on western classical music. He remained committed to European romanticism, which he later combined with Egyptian folk music. He composed three symphonies , including the Folklorique Symphony , as well as an orchestral suite, two overtures such as Isis , inspired by a novel by Tawfiq al-Hakim, two piano concertos , choral, chamber and piano music and a cantata . Was internationally observed a posthumous performance of his choral and orchestral work Lamma bada , the traditional Muwaschschah Advanced -Poesie polyphonic - Charles Munch thus opened in 1967, the Sayed Darwish Hall in Cairo.
Abu-Bakr Khairat is the uncle of the composer Omar Khairat .
