Omar Khairat ( Arabic عمر خيرت, Omar Khayrat ; * November 11, 1949 in Cairo ) is an Egyptian composer.

From 1959 Khairat attended the Cairo Conservatory founded by his uncle Abu-Bakr Khairat , where he studied piano and music theory. This was followed by distance learning at Trinity College of Music in London. At the same time, Khairat became interested in pop and jazz music and became the drummer of Wagdi Francis ' band Les Petits Chats (with organist Ezzat Abou Aouf and guitarist Omar Khorshid ).

Since the late 1970s, Khairat became known as a film music composer. He composed the music for numerous cinema and television films and is considered the most famous film composer in Egypt. His most important symphonic work is the Egyptian Rhapsody ; he also composed a. a. two ballets and two operettas.
