Omar Khorshid

Omar Khorshid ( Arabic عمر خورشيد) (* 1945 in Cairo ; † May 29, 1981 ) was an Egyptian rock and pop guitarist.

Khorshid played the guitar since his youth. In the mid-1960s he founded the band Le Petit Chats (with Wagdi Francis , Omar Khairat and Ezzat Abou Aouf ), with whom he played music influenced by the Beatles and Elvis Presley . The musician Abdel Halim Hafez became aware of him and brought him into his orchestra. As an interpreter of compositions by Baligh Hamdi , Khorshid became famous in Egypt with this orchestra.

Appearances with the singer Umm Kulthum , concerts, radio and studio recordings followed. From 1972 to 1977 Khorshid lived in Lebanon, where he released nine of his own albums for the Voice of the Orient and Voice of Lebanon labels and participated in several films. He also composed the music for more than 40 Egyptian, Lebanese and Syrian films between 1971 and 1981.
