Abu al-Salt , also Abu s-Salt Umayya and Latin Albuzali or Albuzale , (* 1067 in Dénia , † October 30, 1134 in Mahdia (Tunisia)) was an Andalusian-Arabic universal scholar.

Abu al-Salt is the author of numerous poems and a work on music. The latter has not overtaken us. His philosophical work “Justification of the Spirit” gives the logic on the basis of the first four books of the Aristotelian Organon and the Isagogue of Porphyry . He also wrote a treatise on medicines, and writings on mathematics and astronomy.

Abu al-Salt studied with the well-known philosopher Al-Waqasi from Valencia (1017-1095). In 1096 he went with his family to Alexandria and later to Cairo for further studies . In Cairo he entered the service of the Fatimid ruler there. When he failed to lift a boat that had capsized in the Nile and was laden with copper, he was arrested and detained for three years. In 1112 he was released and banished from Cairo. He went to Mahdia in Tunisia, where he was correctly treated for life by the emir there.

Abu al-Salt's compositions are said to have had a great influence on the Andalusian-Arab culture.
