Abudwak ( Somali Caabudwaaq ) is a city in central Somalia in the Galguduud region , near the border with Ethiopia . It is on the road between Gaalkacyo and Dhuusa Marreeb .

Abudwak suffered from decades of civil war in the country. 100,000 people still live in Abudwak, which is also an important supply station for over 600,000 nomads and semi-nomads.

Aid organizations

Somali Care Network (SCN) operates a hospital in the city. There is only one international aid organization operating in all of central Somalia, whose work focuses on Abudwak as a base for well over half a million nomads. Hadia Medical Swiss-Somalia supports the vital areas of medicine, water, veterinary affairs and education.

militia

Abudwak is currently the headquarters of the paramilitary militia Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a , also known as the ASWJ, which first appeared in 1991 . This paramilitary group among troops is one of the most important allies of the federal government in Somalia, which is fighting the forces of the African Union Mission in Somalia and the paramilitary front Ras Kamboni, formed in October 2009, to eliminate the Islamic militant group around Sheikh al-Shabaab, which in turn aims to establish an Islamic state in Somalia.
