Acanthocephalus anguillae is a type of scratchworm (Acanthocephala) thatoccursas an intestinal parasite primarily in freshwater fish and causes acanthocephalosis in them .

features

Female animals reach a body length of 12 to 20 millimeters, the males remain significantly smaller with a maximum of about 5 to 9 millimeters. The fuselage is much wider at the front than at the back. The approximately 1 mm long proboscis (proboscis) is short and club-shaped and has 10 rows of hooks, each made up of 5 to 7 hooks with a forward-facing hook root process.

The eggs are long-oval and have only thin covering membranes. They have an average length of 100 to 126 and an average width of 12 to 14 micrometers.

Way of life

As an adult, Acanthocephalus anguillae lives as an intestinal parasite , especially in the intestines of freshwater fish, especially carp fish , eels and trout .
