Acanthocereus colombianus is a species of plant in the genus Acanthocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet colombianus refers to the occurrence of the species in Colombia .

description

Acanthocereus colombianus grows shrubby with strong three- or four-winged, up to 9 centimeters thick, upright to overhanging shoots and reaches heights of 3 meters. The edges of the shoots are deeply wavy. The large areoles are up to 5 centimeters apart. The 1 to 2 very strong central spines are up to 5.5 inches long. There are 5 to 8 strong, 5 millimeter long radial spines.

The flowers are up to 25 centimeters long. The leathery fruits are red and covered with thorns.

Distribution and systematics

Acanthocereus colombianus is common in Colombia .

The first description was published in 1920 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose .
