Acanthocereus subinermis is a species of plant in the genus Acanthocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet subinermis is derived from the Latin words sub- for 'almost' or 'more or less' and inermis for 'unreinforced' and refers to the missing or short thorns of the species.

Acanthocereus subinermis has a shrubby growth with straddling or proliferating shoots and reaches heights of 1 meter or more. The strong, short, green shoots are segmented, strongly triangular or square and have a diameter of 5 to 7 centimeters. The areoles are 3 to 4 centimeters apart. The 6 to 10 thorns , which are often missing, are needle-like and up to 1.5 centimeters long.
The flowers are 15 to 22 centimeters long. The spherical to briefly elongated, cloudy red fruits are up to 4 centimeters long.
Distribution and systematics
Acanthocereus subinermis is common in the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Veracruz .
The first description was published in 1920 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose .
