The Accademia Toscana di Scienze e Lettere "La Colombaria" is a scientific academy in Italy based in Florence .

history

The establishment of the academy goes back to the meetings of some Tuscan scholars that have been held since 1735 in the house of Girolamo de 'Pazzi in Florence, the Palazzo Pazzi in Borgo degli Albizi . In the early days before the actual institutionalization, this group of scholars was called Società Colombaria , and later the Accademia Colombaria . Towards the end of the Second World War , when the city of Florence was under occupation by German troops, the academy's archives were completely destroyed. In the post-war period, the Academy was reopened in the Palazzo delle Oblate in via S. Egidio. The Academy's presidents in recent history have been Giacomo Devoto (from 1948 to 1974), Eugenio Garin (from 1975 to 1979) and Francesco Adorno (from 1980 to 2009). Danilo Torre is currently the President.
