Acetamido group

The acetylamido group, also called acetamido compounds or acetylamino compounds , are chemical compounds that contain an acetic acid amide as a functional group . Sometimes this residue is also called the acetylamino group.

The most important representatives of the acetamido group include 4-acetamidophenol, the pain reliever paracetamol . A naturally occurring substance with the acetamido function is chitin .

Syntheses

The acetamido group can be obtained through various syntheses. One of these is the reaction of an amine with acetic anhydride or acetyl chloride . The partial base- or acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of acetonitrile produces acetamide (R = H).
